In our busy, edgy, constantly changing, information overloaded, people-full, addictively stimulating, responsibility-heavy, abundant yet lacking, rich and costly, ever accelerating, exhausting, and overwhelming lives of course we yearn to be clear and grounded!
But what does that even mean – to be to be clear, to be grounded – and how do we get there?
Some of us find clarity through making lists and prioritizing them, or through journal writing, or through collaging. Many of us work our way out of confusion through our bodies. We exercise or do yoga or dance or walk in Nature. We craft or sing or vent to one of our dear friends.
For many of us being grounded is a felt sense in our bodies. We may feel our breathing slow or our shoulders drop. We might allow the tears to trickle down our cheeks. Because being disconnected from our knowing selves hurts. Being ungrounded, un-moored, disconnected from our inner compass hurts us and our loved ones.
For many of us being grounded involves remembering our connection to our personal center inside as well as our connection to something much bigger than ourselves. It’s a connection to our true selves, individual and universal.
And for many of us that sense of connection begins with the clarity that comes from meditation or visualization or centering prayer or shamanic journeying. We watch our thoughts flow through without getting lost in them. We settle into our sacred center. We use ritual to shift us beyond mundane life. We walk the rainbow bridge between the worlds to consciously connect with spirit.
Being grounded and clear means, even if for a short time, I can stop the churn so that I can consult with myself, so I can listen to myself, so I can be present in my body and spirit. It’s almost like a circuit breaker that shuts off the flow of outside energy demands so that I can access my power-from-within as well as the vast reservoir of power available to me when I connect with it.
When I can reconnect with my center and my deeper, bigger essence, and I have a more of the inner spaciousness of clarity, then I can narrow my focus to some priority based on my inner knowing, my values and what gives meaning to me. I can see my way to the next good step for me to take in the direction I want to go.
In the prayers of their Despacho ritual, the Q’Ero people of the high Andes say that every day we need to sweep away with the broom of our hearts everything that prevents clarity.
Good news: Personal life coaching for women offers a variety of useful and proven tools, processes and perspectives for sorting this out for ourselves, for defining what being clear and grounded looks like for us and for developing our best strategies for getting back to the place that allows us to make our best choices at this time.
Not so good news: We do have to find our own way to our inner knowing, our inner calm, our inner presence. Because we are each magnificent, multifaceted sparks of divine creation, someone else’s 5 step plan likely doesn’t work for us. Coaching invites us to access our inner wisdom so we can design the processes and structures that support us and our unique lives.
Bad news: There is a great deal in our 21st century lives that acts to keep us disconnected from our true selves, our inner knowing, our healthy homeostasis. Which means we all need multiple ways to keep coming back to ourselves, coming back to our own wisdom and sure sense of direction, coming back to our inner wellbeing and power-from-within.
